This piece was originally written for an ensemble of 18 students to give them something that would engage and. or challenge each player. I wanted to expose them to shifting meters and relied on a minimalist idea for building the groove that drives the piece. It is important to maintain a feeling of motion throughout. The percussion section will be kept busy moving between instruments, and they are featured in the middleâ”it should sound like magic sparkles. I added traditional instrumentation to this, and there is some writing more difficult than grade 3. particularly in the oboe part since originally there was no flute. Still, I think it is a fun piece for the right group. The meter is mostly 5. 8 with the occasional 6. 8 or 4. 8 thrown in.
