Complete Organ Works, Volume V. Symphony No. 5 op. 47. Composed by Louis Vierne. 1870-1937. Edited by Helga Schauerte-Maubouet. For organ solo. Performance score. Published by Baerenreiter Verlag. BA.BA9225. Symphony No. 5, the largest of Vierne's six organ symphonies, was full of misprints in its first edition. Our edition takes the composer's autograph as its principal source. Unlike previous editions, Helga Schauerte-Maubouet has also drawn on a fragmentary handwritten errata list as a secondary source, allowing her to verify Vierne's late alterations to details in the autograph. Her foreword sheds light on the biographical background and explains the work's genesis in great detail. Using previously unpublished letters, she has been able, for the first time, to provide exact dates for each movement.
